REID'S ROOTS

Just like the roots of a plant ensure its growth and future, the roots of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church are its children.

All ages, races, and lifestyles are welcome, and we will invest deeply in each individual child to prepare them for the life God has in store.

It is hard to believe that an idea from the children's ministry committee to encourage children to reach out in kindness to others through something they love to do - RUN - continues to this day! A decade later, the children and members of Reid Memorial continue to touch the lives of so many folks through Reid on the Run. From the very first race for childhood cancer to 2020's race for Cystic Fibrosis, this family friendly race has raised just over $200,000 total for nine different organizations and/or causes.

PIPS (6 months - 2 years)

The Pips is designed to nurture children physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The children learn about God’s love for them through their interactions with caregivers, Bible stories, songs, and age-appropriate fun activities designed just for little ones. Our staff understands the special nurturing each child needs and strives to see that each child feels and understands Jesus’ love for him/her.

Children are assigned to and move through rooms based on developmental milestones, such as infants, crawlers, and walkers, until they are toddlers. Toddlers are assigned to a classroom with other children their age and remain in that classroom until moving to the Shoots classroom the fall after they turn 2-years-old.

SHOOTS (2 - 3 years)

What better time to start teaching about how much Jesus loves them than when children are young? Paul reminds Timothy that he had the privilege of knowing the holy Scriptures “from infancy” (2 Timothy 3:14-15). Our Sunday morning classes include helping children learn about God and develop a relationship with Him at their level, learning that God is great, that He made the world around them, and that He loves them.

LEAVES (preschool)

Children's Church

Children ages PreK4 through Second Grade are given the opportunity to worship through the Children's Church offering. Children's Church encourages our children to experience the Bible through storytelling, using a hands-on approach. Children's Church mission is not only to teach God's story, but also to engage children in the act of worship.

Children are welcome to remain in the sanctuary for the entire worship service, or they may choose to attend Children's Church at the conclusion of the Children's message.

The children should be picked up at the conclusion of the service from the Grove.

Preschool Bible Study

Starting Wednesday, September 7 from 5:15 - 6:15 pm, your child is invited to join us for a journey through the Bible. Each week, the children enjoy a visit from Theo, our Chipmunk puppet, who shares practical, real-life application of the Bible truths learned in class. In addition, the children participate in hands-on activities and crafts, sing songs, learn Scripture verses and benefit from a prayer time together.

The Preschool Bible Study meets Wednesdays, at 5:15 pm in room 105 of the children's education wing. A nursery will be available for all children under the age of three while the Young Women of Faith Bible study and Preschool Bible Study takes place. All are welcome!

Be a ROCK STAR: Reaching Out In Christian Kindness

Kids’ Retreat at Bishop Gravatt Camp and Conference Center

All 3rd thru 5th graders are invited to a Kids’ Retreat at Bishop Gravatt Camp and Conference center just up the road in the woods of Aiken, South Carolina. It is the perfect setting for a spectacular weekend!

There are chunks of time built into the retreat for students to play, laugh, share stories, pray, relax, and hangout with each other. Their relationships with each other and God are transformed through this special time away. It is amazing to watch God, bring encouragement, understanding, hope and new attitudes during our short time together.

By taking the kids out of their normal daily activities and breaking their routines allows for God to break into their lives in real and profound ways. Every experience created is centered on God and His message of hope found in Jesus. The kids are given time and encouragement to examine God’s plan through the study of His word, practical sharing, and teachable moments.

Since having fun is a key component to a child’s development, a whole lot of fun is planned as well! On December 2nd and 3rd, all third - fifth graders are invited to join in this amazing weekend filled with fun, fellowship, and faith formation! To reserve your spot, please email me as soon as possible (jmaple@reidchurchaugusta.org) . The cost for this retreat is $50 which includes meals, lodging, transportation, and activities.

HOLY MOLY / SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School

New and exciting things are on the horizon for this year's Sunday school program! We have modified our Sunday school program just a bit to meet the needs of busy families everywhere. Each week, we will post a video with the weekly lesson on Reid Memorial's website.

You can watch the lesson any time that is convenient for you and your child - on the way home from soccer practice, after school or even on the way to church on Sunday mornings. Our hope is for families to have access to the lesson at home, to create opportunities for parents and children to explore the story more fully and to keep children engaged when they may not be able to attend Sunday school in person.

During the Sunday school hour, the children will participate in hands-on activities that relate to the video lesson. Join us in rooms 210 and 211 on Sunday morning for Sunday school!
